Based in Edinburgh, ESS Recruit’s client is a rapidly expanding and highly ambitious medical device manufacturer, who’s pioneering medical device and software substantially increases the detection of pre-cancerous lesions of the cervix; helping women across the world treat and detect cervical cancer early.  The business has launched an Artificial Intelligence programme to complement their leading edge product, and now needs to recruit an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Development Engineer to integrate the AI capability.
Reporting to the Software Engineering Manager, the AI Development Engineer works within the Software Development function.  The AI Development Engineer will be responsible for working with an external development company, taking their AI creation and integrating this capability into the current product portfolio. The external development company is currently under contract to create and train an appropriate neural net for the application, and this role is work alongside the developer’s team to understand, absorb and inherit the resulting code.
The primary objective is to bring the Artificial Intelligence/AI capability into the company and be able to support it, integrate it with the source code of the main product and ensure correct operation.  As such, the role will entail substantial work and collaboration with the external development team (European based) together with the internal software development team.  Some travel to Greece is expected in this role.
We are looking for candidates with a recent and recognised 1st degree or MSC/PhD in Machine Learning or Artificial Intelligence (AI).  Other key required skills include:

Robust understanding and experience of developing and managing neural nets in commercial applications. In particular, a working appreciation of the essential requirements for successful deployment.
Highly numerical (possibly a 1st degree in maths or statistics).
Development of Embedded software for consumer grade products on embedded Linux.
Demonstrable experience of GPU programming / deployment.
Technical knowledge of Linux Architecture covering (Bootloaders, Kernel, Drivers, File Systems & User space)
Administration of an Embedded Linux device.
Design and develop software in a multitude of languages and can adapt and pick up new skills easily. Core development using C/C++ and Python.
