Job Overview

In March 2020, Amazon established the Amazon Relief Fund with a $25 million initial contribution focused on supporting our independent delivery service partners and their drivers, Amazon Flex participants, and seasonal employees under financial distress during this challenging time. In the future, this fund will support our employees and contractors around the world who face financial hardships from other qualifying events, such as a natural disaster, federally declared emergency, or unforeseen personal hardship. Amazon is seeking a Data Engineer to help operationalize and scale the Amazon Relief Fund. You will have an opportunity to help build an impactful program from the ground up. By driving efficient execution and scaling of the Amazon Relief Fund, this role ensures that beneficiaries of the fund are able to quickly access support during a time of great need. The Data Engineer will be responsible for designing and implementing the ETL pipelines in data warehouse platforms and other systems to qualify beneficiaries, process grants, and visualize program metrics. The role coordinates with partner teams to define and build the data architecture, data mart and reporting layers to enable information and payment flows as well as standardized reporting. An ideal candidate will be someone with passion for supporting our employees and partners, broad technical background in data engineering principles, strong business acumen, high degree of ownership, and comfort working independently in a start-up environment. The successful candidate will also be a great communicator who can crisply communicate his/her analysis in non-technical terms to senior management. They will have a strong attention to detail and focus on compliance in building solutions that reflect unique data storage and privacy requirements around the world. Basic Qualifications 3 years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role Experience with data modeling, data warehousing, and building ETL pipelines Experience in SQL Bachelor’s degree in statistics, engineering or other quantitative field Data Warehousing Experience with Oracle, Redshift, Teradata, etc. Proven analytical and quantitative skills (including ability to effectively use business tools such as Excel/Access, Tableau, SQL, etc.) and an ability to use data and metrics to back up assumptions, develop business cases, and complete root cause analyses. Experience using big data technologies (Hadoop, Hive, Hbase, Spark, EMR, Presto, etc.) Knowledge of data management fundamentals and data storage principles Knowledge of distributed systems as it pertains to data storage and computing Proficiency in, at least, one modern scripting or programming language such as Python, NodeJS, Java, or Scala.
