Job Overview

What you’ll do…

H&R Block is transforming tax preparation through data to ensure that every client we serve gets the best tax outcome possible. Designs, and develops methods and systems to generate actionable insights and solutions for our clients. Interacts with product and service teams to identify questions and approaches for data analysis and experiments. Develops and codes algorithms and automated processes to cleanse, integrate and evaluate large datasets from multiple sources. Identifies meaningful insights from “big data” sources

  • Able to develop custom data models and algorithms to apply to data sets
  • Acquires deep understanding of HRB data and business metrics
  • Ability to reframe business requests to fit the unasked need, ultimately articulating clear and trusted recommendations based on analysis
  • Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques and their real-world advantages/drawbacks
  • Use big data or machine learning frameworks such as Hadoop, Spark, PyTorch, TensorFlow or similar tools to analyze data
  • Interprets and communicates insight findings from analysis and experiments in a compelling manner to Product, Service, Marketing and business managers.
  • Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze model performance and data accuracy

What you’ll bring to the team…

  • Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Operations Research, or other related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Fluent in Python or R
  • Experience using big data/ML frameworks: Hadoop, Spark, PyTorch, TensorFlow or similar
  • Knowledge of compiled language a plus (Java, C, C++, etc)
  • Deep understanding of HRB data and business metrics
  • Basic NLP methods (LDA, bag of words, etc)
  • Able to develop custom data models and algorithms to apply to data sets
  • Ability to identify new packages and tools to improve a novel need
