A leading utility provider located in Philadelphia, PA is looking for a local Strategic Planning Data Analyst for a long term contact. 


  • Deliver Data-Driven Insight : Support Strategic Planning Office (SPO) through data analysis and business intelligence. Identify and analyze specific business questions through development of analytical frameworks and models, and draw conclusions and provide recommendations for action. Focus is on translating and interpreting data into positive outcomes and actionable insight. Work with the SPO to identify, propose and develop new data analysis opportunities based upon and to further inform the Corporate Strategy. Sample strategic analytics use case include: customer segmentation; Competitive landscape (opportunities and threats); and revenue, sales and expenses analysis.
  • Manage Data Analytics Projects : Execute multiple projects from start to finish, including strategic analytics use cases, executive reporting on annual goals and monthly KPIs, and additional projects as determined. Engage closely with stakeholders to understand business objectives, identify data sources and translate requirements into meaningful deliverables such as dashboards, models or reports. Serve as a liaison to business/client departments, Information Technology and Enterprise Data Center of Excellence. Act as point of contact to potential external/3rd-party contractors assisting SPO.
  • Perform Data Model Design and Implementation : Identify appropriate techniques and tools for acquiring, retrieving, analyzing, and making use of internal and external data, aligned within enterprise standards. Extract and query data from enterprise databases, and compile and aggregate multiple data sets. Proactively seek, obtain, and incorporate external datasets to inform internal analyses, aligned within enterprise standards. Develop ongoing automated mechanisms for incorporating real-time external data. Work with both structured and unstructured data sources, with different levels of data quality. Utilize various SQL, R and development tools to help process, transform and load data sources into the decided environment.
  • Develop Corporate Strategy Dashboards : Structure, report and present data in ways conducive to tracking and analyzing strategic metrics. Design and build new dashboards and visualizations, in addition to providing ongoing support and enhancements to existing dashboards. Consult with other resources to ensure data governance and alignment with best practice methodologies. Administer the SPO’s metric intake and tracking systems. Build and maintain any additional data collection and analytical tools, and help SPO monitor and optimize data processes and operations, aligned within enterprise standards.
  • Education and Experience :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science, Business Analytics, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems or related technical discipline. Master’s degree preferred. Certification in Analytics is a plus.
  • Technical work history with experience in data intelligence platforms, and data analysis and modeling. Proven experience in problem solving and developing reports or solutions to meet business needs. Experience with one or more BI technologies such as Tableau; Proficient database programming skills; Experience with SQL; Python or statistical analysis tools (i.e. R, Stata) a plus.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; must be able to work independently and take initiative to solve problems and complete tasks as they arise.
  • Ability to work with and communicate with both technical and non-technical teams. Ability to gather and translate end-user requirements; Ability to effectively convey complex information; Proactively addresses needs and expectations of business users.
  • Experience in Energy or Utility Industry a plus.
