The William & Mary Data Science Program invites applications for a three-year, non-tenure-track lecturer position, with the possibility of a contract extension depending on performance. The position will begin on August 10, 2020. We seek a strong teacher-advisor who can both successfully teach python-based courses in data analytics, as well as help students navigate the rapidly growing Data Science Program. The position carries a typical teaching load of three courses in each of the fall and spring semesters.
The ideal candidate will have a broad knowledge of data analytics, with a strong interest in teaching to multidisciplinary, liberal arts audiences, including students in disciplines outside of traditional STEM areas, and experience in using alternative data analysis languages, such as R or Julia. The successful candidate will teach introductory courses for Data Science, including machine learning, and upper-level Data Science courses in the candidate’s area of expertise.
M.S. or ABD in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or advanced degree with published work that utilizes extensive big data analytics, by the time the appointment begins on August 10, 2020.
Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics or Geography. Prior university teaching experience and applied experience outside of academic settings is preferred.
