The Frederick National Laboratory is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. The lab addresses some of the most urgent and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and first-in-human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious diseases.

Position Overview:
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The NCI Cancer Imaging Program fosters advances in in vivo medical imaging sciences through support of
basic and applied research in cancer imaging as well as promotion of imaging in clinical trials in order to gain
greater understanding of the pathways of cancer biology for the benefit of cancer patients and people at
cancer risk.
The Cancer Imaging Informatics Lab, part of the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research, manages
the Cancer Imaging Archive (TCIA) with the objective to increase public availability of high quality cancer
imaging datasets for research, supports NIH data sharing requirements for the cancer imaging community,
enhances reproducibility in research, and creates a culture of open data sharing and collaboration among
cancer imaging researchers.
The Cancer Imaging Informatics Lab also supports the development of new technologies and methodologies
such as clinical imaging data de-identification and curation, radiomics and image characterization, AI and deep
learning, and integrative, multi-disciplinary data analysis (e.g., radiogenomics). The Lab provides leadership,
expertise, and imaging data support to NIH program activities such as the Quantitative Imaging Network (QIN),
Informatics Technology in Cancer Research (ITCR), CPTAC, and Moonshot APOLLO and imaging analysis and
‘omics integration projects.
KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Scientific oversight and project management of multiple imaging characterization activities in the
context of imaging-proteogenomics research which will be built upon TCIA data collection efforts
Assist the head of the laboratory in drafting statements of work and reviewing deliverables of
subcontracts
Provide overall scientific project management oversight and maintain coordination and communications
among all parties
Monitor progress against plans and provide status to senior management using project/program
management tools and techniques to organize, plan, track, coordinate, execute, report, and evaluate
program projects and objectives
Maintain coordination and communication between research operations, program management, and
team members
Prepare meeting minutes and follow-up to action items
Assist in the preparation of scientific data reports and data analysis
Prepare and manage multi-tiered project documentation and technical project coordination with lead
scientist’s/study directors
Stay abreast of current research techniques and remain knowledgeable in pertinent areas through
reading literature and by attending scientific presentations
Interface with government officials, primary investigators, program specialists, Leidos Biomed executives,
and other staff
Perform assignments independently, but may be subject to supervisory or appropriate project staff
oversight as needed
Compose and edit various program and technical communications, including presentations, standard
processes and other communications
This position may travel up to 15%
This position is will be primarily teleworking, but the client’s office is based out of Rockville, MD and in person
attendance of meetings may be required occasionally
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Possession of a MS degree from an accredited college or university. Foreign degrees must be evaluated
for U.S. equivalency
In addition to educational requirements, a minimum of five (5) years of related experience
Ability to provide scientific and technical direction to subcontracts
Strong written and oral communication skills
Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
PhD in relevant field
Knowledge of contract management
Demonstrated ability to critique and evaluate scientific relative reports
Demonstrated experience with image processing applications
Demonstrated knowledge of current advances in medical imaging (radiology and pathology)
Fluency using Python
Familiarity with high-performance computing environment
General experience in machine learning approaches
Familiarity with libraries for neural network applications (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Caffe, CNTK)
Familiarity with latest image processing techniques
Ability to work effectively in a Linux operating environment
Experience with application development using high-level languages
Demonstrated ability to telework
Ability to independently design and conduct experiments
Must be detail oriented
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks/projects
Ability to work independently and within a team environment
