Qualifications, Skills and Competencies:
Palladyne AI is looking for a Software or Autonomy Engineer with an outstanding track record for the stage of your career to work on the development of advanced applications for collaborative autonomy involving robotic systems, with an emphasis on unmanned vehicles. Candidates must have the following skills, experience and qualifications:
- M.S. and/or Ph.D. degree in computer science, computer science engineering or other applicable fields (e.g., Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Physics)
- 1+ years of robotics software development or autonomous robotics work experience
- Strong skills programming in C++, Python
- Expertise in at least two of the following: controls for robotics, computer vision, multi-task robot planning and scene reasoning in unstructured environments, reinforcement learning or multi-robot systems planning
- Software experience with embedded systems on unmanned vehicles is preferred
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to think creatively and analytically and to problem-solve
- Desire and ability to work well in a team environment
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Flexibility and adaptability–a willingness to take on new or different responsibilities as needed
- Willingness to receive and respond positively to feedback
You must be passionate about using your skills and experience to effectively collaborate with colleagues with a diverse set of engineering backgrounds to rapidly develop and bring to market powerful AI/ML software for autonomous robotic solutions.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Develop innovative AI&ML algorithms for perception, reasoning and decision-making for robotic platforms (preferably aerial robotic systems, commonly known as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) or drones, but experience in working with ground, underwater, underground and industrial robotics platforms is acceptable to be embedded in the edge hardware solutions
- Develop software codebase, program firmware of various levels for the hardware solutions
- Define database structures, data management processes, identify data types for collection, and set up data analysis software
- Write tests to validate system performance and compliance
- Support the edge hardware development team with troubleshooting sensors, actuators, and subsystems in pre-production phase
- Collaborate with Edge Hardware and Software teams in an agile development environment
- Provide support for preparing reports and documentation as required for intellectual property filing and proposals preparation
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- This position is located in Salt Lake City, UT and is not a remote position
- Work is generally performed Monday through Friday, with the ability to work overtime and weekends as needed
- Safety awareness is essential at all times while in the work area
- Must be able to stand and sit for extended times
