As a Data Scientist on Best Buy’s Strategic Analytics team with Best Buy, you’ll be supporting our Marketing team by apply statistical and machine learning methods to complex data across the company. In this role, you’ll provide analytic thought leadership to drive a data-grounded perspective. You’ll improve our core capabilities and drive innovative customer experiences to transform how Best Buy operates day-to-day. The successful candidate will bring business acumen and well-honed analytical skills to address customer-related business questions.
This role is hybrid, which means you will work some days on site at a Best Buy location and some days virtually from home or another non-Best Buy location. The specific work arrangements vary by role and team.
For this role, you must be located within a drivable distance to our office in Richfield, Minnesota.
What You’ll Do
- Mine large structured and unstructured data to extract actionable insights and provide recommendations to solve business problems, ensuring data is used effectively to address straightforward business challenges.
- Utilize advanced statistical and machine learning methods to develop and implement sophisticated models, contributing to the continuous improvement of Best Buy’s data science practices.
- Employ broad and deep knowledge of statistics, analytics, and machine learning to predict future trends and inform strategic decisions.
- Engage key stakeholders continuously, scope business questions, and identify where strategic analytics can have the greatest impact, driving insights that lead to fact-based decision-making.
- Collaborate with Decision Science, CRM Strategy, and broader Marketing teams to implement and deploy scalable solutions to make the Best Buy marketing and personalization program world class.
- Maintain and create reporting and analytics measurement infrastructure.
Basic Qualifications
- 2 years of experience in data science, data analysis, data mining, or other similar business functions.
- 1 year of experience applying machine learning techniques, developing predictive models, and optimizing performance for real-world applications.
- Bachelor's degree in a highly quantitative field (e.g. Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Operations Research, etc.)
- 1 year of experience as a data science to include one or more of the following: operations research, design and analysis of experiments, machine learning, quantitative analysis.
- 1 year of experience with Python and SQL
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a highly quantitative field (e.g. Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Operations Research, etc.).
- 1 year of experience with Google Cloud
- Demonstrated ability to leverage distributed processing to scale to big data.
- Demonstrated ability to design experiments, analyze large-scale datasets, and extract meaningful insights to support decision-making.
- Experience in building and deploying models using machine learning algorithms to analyze large-scale datasets, improving decision-making efficiency and accuracy.
- Ability to effectively communicate technical information to a wide spectrum of cross-functional team members.
