Purpose of the Job
As a Data Scientist, you will help to solve real-world business problems as a central member of the Data Science team including data identification and design to analytic approach and delivery.
Main Responsibilities
Key accountabilities:
- Be responsible for design and beginning-to-end execution of programs including interpreting business needs, munging/wrangling data, developing and validating predictive models, and deploying completed solutions meeting schedule and performance targets
- Use advanced statistics, data mining, machine learning, and deep learning techniques to deliver data-driven insights for the railroad industry
- Transform raw data into meaningful features for model building
- Design and implementing machine learning algorithms, including regression, classification and clustering to build predictive models
- Assess the accuracy and performance of models using appropriate metrics
- Work with stakeholders to understand challenges and create solutions, and identify opportunities
- Produce a range of data-driven visualizations (dashboards, reports, presentations) and provide insights relative to created data science products
- Team with product/program managers and product owners to understand requirements and develop processes/tools to monitor and analyze data accuracy and business performance
- Process, cleanse, and verify the integrity of data used for analysis
- Work with software developers and architects to help operationalize models into production
- In conjunction with data owners and department managers, develop data models and protocols for solutions that provide advanced, meaningful, and actionable business insights
- Communicate project progress, requirements and risks to the program managers, engineering team, stakeholders and engineering leaders
Performance measurements:
- Program documentation approval completion and Design Freeze with Customer
- Project requirement database maturity (full coverage of requirements and customer acceptance)
- Delivery of project configuration for handover to Maintenance and Operations entities
- Engineering management plan adherence
Experience
Mandatory:
- 3+ years in Data Science centric positions
Desirable:
- 5+ years in Data Science centric positions
- Collaboration with customers
- Transportation industry experience
Competencies & Skills:
- Technical expertise with proven predictive modeling and machine learning skills
- Knowledge of advanced statistical learning techniques and experience with applications
- Strong understanding of statistical concepts and hypothesis testing
- Experience working with complex data using advanced analytics techniques and software technologies to deliver and interpret valuable insights
- Experience using Python and/or R
- Experience using standard libraries, such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, Spark ML
- Strong SQL coding skills and the ability to manipulate data and draw insights from large datasets
- Solid analytical approach to problem solving
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Clear and concise presentation of complex data insights to non-technical audiences
- Proven track record of delivery and execution
Education
Mandatory:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a highly quantitative field including Applied Math, Statistics, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Operations Research, Econometrics or Engineering
Desirable:
- Master’s Degree in a highly quantitative field including Applied Math, Statistics, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Operations Research, Econometrics or Engineering
