The Opportunity
Abt is seeking a Data Scientist to join its growing team in the Digital and Data Services (DDS) Capability. This team plays a key role within Abt providing data science methods, artificial intelligence (AI), and automation tools to a broad range of U.S. government agencies. Much of this work is focused on data modernization and analysis in areas such as healthcare, public health, housing, the environment, and human services.
The Data Scientist works with internal colleagues and external clients to answer complex technical questions. They will perform data cleaning and data pipeline engineering, analyze textual and numerical data, and utilize tools in Azure and AWS cloud environments to deploy generative AI, natural language processing, and machine learning workflows. The selected candidate must be experienced in data science methods, with preference given to experience with Python.
Core Responsibilities
The successful hire will be able to perform the following functions and have the following mix of experience and skills:
- Lead tasks, including organizing work plans and delegating work, with limited supervision.
- Develop technical solutions to complex problems through ingenuity and innovation.
- Collect data from various sources, such as with webscraping and APIs.
- Experience with cloud computing services (e.g., AWS, Azure).
- Experience with generative AI, natural language processing (NLP), and machine learning methods.
- Strong programming skills in Python, proficiency in R or SQL, and experience with version control (git) software.
- Strong writing, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
What We Value
- Preference given to those with workflow automation experience, including tools such as Prefect, Dagster, and AWS Lambda.
- Preference given to those with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) experience, particularly TerraForm.
- Preference given to candidates interested in MLOps and willing to assist in expanding departmental capabilities.
- Bachelors + 5 years of relevant experience, Masters + 3 years of relevant experience, or PhD in Computer Science or related degree
- Must have a current US federal Public Trust clearance or the ability to successfully obtain one.

This position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of approximately $91,000 to $146,000 and may vary by ten percent depending on candidate geographic location. Salary offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis.
