Position Summary
Seeking an experienced data scientist responsible for the development, evaluation, and refinement of data science tools utilized by the information services Digital Health and Innovation team. To further develop and foster a culture of innovation across ECU Health, this position is part of a multi-disciplinary team that aims to identify, rigorously evaluate, and facilitate the implementation of emerging technology to achieve excellence across digital health, research, and innovation domains.
Responsibilities
- Collaborative and creative team member critical in developing, evaluating, and deploying data science tools for ECU Health Digital Health and Innovation team projects spanning research, digital health, and quality initiatives within Information Services at ECU Health.
- Demonstrated proficiencies in programming languages such as Python, R, and SQL.
- Demonstrated expertise in extracting, processing, and analyzing large clinical datasets
- Experience in the development and implementation of machine learning models, and data visualization
- Skilled at preparing and presenting developed data sciences tools to executive leadership and stakeholder groups
- Strong attention to detail to maintain data integrity, quality, and security standards including HIPAA
- Works closely with the IS enterprise analytics team for alignment of data science reporting format, clinical definitions, and best practices, when appropriate.
- Follows methodology and procedures set by Digital Health & Innovation team leadership and Project Management Office (PMO) to complete assigned tasks related to projects.
Minimum Requirements
- Master's degree or higher in computer science, statistics, data science, or related field
- 3+ years experience working as a developer or data scientist within the healthcare sector
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with data integrations in healthcare applications including HL7 and APIs
- Strong understanding of data standards and terminologies in healthcare such as ICD-10, SNOMED, RxNorm, CPT, etc
- Prior experience using natural language processing (NLP)
- Prior experience with the clinical data structure of Epic Electronic Health Record (EHR), including data extraction from Caboodle and Clarity databases
