Job Overview:We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Healthcare Data Scientist with specialized experience in working with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) data. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of healthcare analytics, statistical modeling, and data-driven decision-making. You will be critical in extracting actionable insights from large-scale healthcare datasets, improving operational performance, and informing strategic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:Data Management & Integration:
- Collect, clean, and process large volumes of structured and unstructured CMS data (e.g., Medicare, Medicaid claims data, Part D, beneficiary-level data, etc.), integrating it with other healthcare datasets (e.g., electronic health records, provider data, etc.).
Statistical Modeling & Analysis:
- Develop and apply advanced statistical models, machine learning algorithms, and predictive analytics to uncover trends, patterns, and insights in CMS data that drive informed healthcare decision-making.
Reporting & Visualization:
- Generate insightful, data-driven reports and visualizations that summarize key findings for both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Use tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Python-based visualization libraries (e.g., Matplotlib, Seaborn) to present complex data in an accessible format.
Healthcare Organization Evaluation:
- Conduct assessments of healthcare organizations across the U.S., developing advanced analytic models to evaluate cost-effectiveness, quality measures, patient satisfaction, and health equity.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with hospital systems, health plans, and other healthcare-focused organizations to translate business needs into actionable data science solutions leveraging Equity Quotient’s core technology platform. Clearly communicate technical findings to cross-functional teams, providing strategic recommendations to optimize care delivery and reduce costs.
Regulatory Compliance & Data Governance:
- Ensure all data usage complies with CMS regulations, HIPAA, and other healthcare privacy standards. Maintain a strong understanding of CMS rules, policies, and data access restrictions.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation:
- Stay current with the latest developments in healthcare data science, machine learning techniques, and CMS-related regulations. Contribute to the evolution of best practices in healthcare analytics and data science.
Qualifications:Education:
- Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Healthcare Economics, Epidemiology, Public Health, Healthcare Informatics, or a related field.
Experience:
- 10+ years of experience in healthcare data analytics, with a proven track record of working with CMS data (e.g., Medicare, Medicaid, or Part D claims data).
- Hands-on experience with healthcare data processing, cleaning, and analysis, particularly for large-scale, longitudinal datasets.
- Strong expertise in statistical analysis (e.g., regression modeling, hypothesis testing) and machine learning techniques (e.g., decision trees, clustering, classification).
- Experience working in a leading national healthcare organization in the hospital system, health plan, academia, and/or health policy space is highly desirable.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in SQL for data extraction and manipulation.
- Strong knowledge of data science programming languages (e.g., Python, R).
- Experience with Big Data technologies (e.g., Snowflake, AWS).
- Familiarity with healthcare data sets (e.g., CMS PDC and claims and private data sources profiling patients, hospitals, and other socioeconomic factors impacting the cost of care and health outcomes).
- Understanding of data governance, privacy standards, and regulations related to CMS data.
Analytical Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to perform complex data analysis and translate findings into actionable insights.
- Experience in data visualization and presenting results to non-technical stakeholders.
Soft Skills:
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.
- Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to challenges.
Preferred Qualifications:- Experience with advanced benchmarking and assessment models as well as quality measurement frameworks.
- Familiarity with CMS quality reporting programs, such as Star Ratings or HEDIS.
- Knowledge of healthcare policy and reimbursement structures, especially related to CMS programs.
